9Dorf Farms
The Neuendorf family have been farming in the fertile Lockyer Valley since 1918 originally dairying and then moving on to lucerne and horticulture. After a family succession David and Bronwyn with their son Brenton started their own lucerne farm and 9Dorf Farms was born.
David realised that farming in today’s financial climate had little rewards and began investigating new ways of diversification working with the environment to heal our land. This opened up new opportunities to provide ethically grown produce marketed direct to the public. David’s first venture was to grow clean and wholesome fish and after 2 years of research including a trip to Israel to investigate the latest technology, a 30 tonne aquaculture recirculation system was built in 2011 on their Lilydale property growing Australian native fish. With the aquaculture operation up and running successfully it was now time to start the next phase of rejuvinating the paddocks using the controlled movement of cattle followed closely behind by poultry. It has been a long hard road battling droughts, floods and disasters however the fruits of their perserverance are now showing.
Elgin Valley Free Range
We started by installing special netting to keep them safe and to keep their predators out. It also puts a stop to other birds from invading their space, stressing them out, and potentially bringing in disease. We decided to make the door out of the barn 40% bigger than other farms so that our chooks can easily nip out for a good scratch and a peck.
Our Elgin Valley chooks enjoy only the best of the best when it comes to their diet and of course their specially prepared feed has no antibiotic growth promotants and no preservatives or growth hormones. They also have the option to snack on whatever’s on offer in the yard. All of this means that you’re getting a natural, wholesome and healthy chicken delivered from our farm to your table that you can feel good about.
Elgin Valley poultry is FREPA (Free Range Egg and Poultry Australia) accredited.
